Music News: Best Hip Hop Live Performances
The best parts of any awards shows are the performances. The artists only have a few minutes to put on their best live acts, so they usually pull out all the stops. With elaborate state-setups including lights and pyrotechnics, backup dancers and choreography, and unexpected musical collaborations, the audiences never know what to expect which adds to the excitement. This year’s performances have surpassed most people’s expectations; but awards season is not over yet. Here’s a recap of some of the best hip hop acts to grace the stages of awards shows so far this year.
Chris Brown
Known for his dance moves, Chris Brown did not disappoint at this year’s BET Awards. His performance included several backup dancers and original choreography that showed off his impressive dancing abilities, inspired by superstars Michel Jackson and Usher. Performances like this continue to help Chris Brown’s career bounce back after pleading guilty to assaulting then-girlfriend Rihanna in 2008. As he steadily climbs back to the top and continues to appear in the pop music charts, Brown is expected to entertain audiences on awards show stages for years to come.
Lil Wayne
At the very same awards show, DJ Khaled, Lil Wayne, Rick Ross, and Drake came together on stage to perform their hit “I’m On One.” Any time four hip hop heavyweights come together on a song it is usually bound for greatness, and the chance to get to see them perform it on stage together is even more special. Their BET Awards performance didn’t need any fancy stage-setups because their personalities are electrifying enough to captivate the audience. Lil Wayne, being one of the most magnetic hip hop starts in history, exploded onto the stage with his typical rock star flare and stole the show. Add this to the roller-coaster ride of extraordinary moments that is his career.
With the sixth annual Hip Hop Awards coming up, audiences can expect to witness even more awards show magic. If the highlights of the BET Awards are any indication of what’s to come, anything can and will happen with the hip hop world’s biggest names together in one room – and on one stage.
