The Industry For Hip Hop Artists Who Buy Rap Beats
Everything has changed when it comes to music creation, promotion and distribution in the last few years. It’s become easy to buy rap beats, record songs and get some serious money made through music because of new technologies. Not only that, it seems that the industry is actually turning in favor of the independent movement. Major labels are being left in the dust and artists everywhere are starting to come up fast.
Many people are continuously talking about how the industry is ruined, which is absolute nonsense, but cyber pirating has some musicians seriously scared. If you’re under the impression that now is a bad time to come into the industry because of the invention of the internet, you are seriously dead wrong. I can’t explain this enough times. Songs are being spread virally for free via email attachments and file transfers but this is absolutely no reason to fret.
Here’s the truth, in case you want to hear it… Though songs are being sent around the virtual space at ridiculously fast rates, the fact remains that, according to expert’s research, only 20% of all music is pirated or otherwise seen as a loss in sales. That means that 80% of music lovers still buy music, regardless of Limewire and other services that make it easy to steal music.
It’s my personal belief that records will always sell, for all of eternity, for as long as there are fans to buy the music. Why? Well I say this because those who buy music don’t buy it just because they want to listen to it… In fact, in today’s industry it’s much more likely that they have access to those same songs for free… The reason they buy is because they want to support the artists which they look up to so much.
In fact there is a lot to look forward to as a recording artist today. Though the major labels are seeing a mysterious decline in record sales, I believe I can pinpoint the reasons for that. The major industry is not changing to work with the digital era. This is why the independent scene is expanding at such a dramatic rate while the majors are falling off quickly. Major labels are known for spending huge amounts of money on each one of their artists, falling short on record sales many times and ending up not making any profit. With the few artists that do profit, the majors continue putting more and more money into them. The artists that fail to bring in substantial record sales are simply dropped from the label, and the losses are recovered by their mega famous artists.
The independent industry, however, is blooming fantastically. It can’t be denied. In 2009 Billboard Magazine released a statement that 50% of all record sales and singles downloaded were by independent record labels. That is huge! With access to promotional venues such as YouTube, Facebook and Twitter, it’s no wonder why so many sales are coming in these days for us independents.
Distribution has also become very cheap. Before you had to go through a major label or somebody with some serious connections if you wanted to be trusted with worldwide distribution. With companies such as Tunecore rising, it’s become extremely affordable. You can get your music on all the major mp3 retailers, such as iTunes and Rhapsody, for a cost that nearly anybody can afford. It’s the kind of payment you can handle with a simple 9-5 job. Production has become easy to find as well, with companies such as Beats4Legends selling licenses to Hip Hop Beats for extremely minimal costs. So first you need rights to the beats, then you need to record… After that, use the internet to promote, distribute and make some serious coin!
